This study treats the impact of the students of Shendi University on the commercial activity in Shendi, It is prefaced by an introduction about the progression of the high education in Sudan and the increasing of the students numbers in the University. In order to measure this impact, the study adopts a questionnaire distributed to different sects of the economic activities in the town. The questionnaire reflects some issues related to the commercial activity according to the origin of the merchant, the starting date and the place of the commercial activity, method of selling, the impact of the University vacation on the process of
selling, high times of trading .. etc. The study came to some results like:
_ Some sectors, like the cafeterias, the transports, canteens, are more affected by the University vacation.
_ The high cost of the shops rents.
_ The imbalanced distribution of firms causes problems in shopping.
_ The establishing of some cafeterias in the domiciles causes a lot of negative effects.
_ Of the recommendations of the study:
_ Planning of new commercial zones map considering the interests of the habitants and the students.
_ Cafeterias in the domiciles should be prohibited.
_ Encouraging the little local markets as souq el Shajara, souq el Daim …etc.
_ The environment of the market and services points is to be highly regarded; as neatness and elegance are measures for town’s developing which necessitates a following up authority.
_ Emphasizing the importance of the public services in the town for its leading role in enhancing the environment.
